Just as the Riebeek Valley origins are based on the supply of food and drink to the sailors, the original owners, Anne & Garth, had the life experience to fit in here, (hotelier and sailor respectively) and operate their pub, restaurant and guest house.
Unfortunately Garth died before their dream had become reality, but Anne’s daughter Mia stepped into the breach and is a more than capable, charming and warm hostess (now her Mum’s partner in the business). Her dream is to ultimately become a fully fledged winemaker – having already completed her diploma in Viticulture at Elsenburg while working on the neighbouring Estate, Allesverloren, she has cellar internships in Germany and New Zealand under her belt, and is going to do the Cellar Technology course through Elsenburg in 2009, while doing an internship at Boschendal.
We are extremely proud and happy for her following her dream!

The property is very different from when it was bought in the first half of 2004, and as it grows more changes are planned, albeit slower than they had hoped. Their main aim is to create a haven of tranquillity and restfulness in counterpoint to the harsh stressful lifestyle of so many of their guests.
A relaxed country atmosphere prevails in the pub “The Potting Shed” (an allusion to Anne's efforts in the gardens and in memory of her mother's pub at their hotel in Knysna), while the dining room is gently welcoming in shades of blues and heathers, (airconditioned for the sultry days of mid-summer) with crisp white damask table linen, shiny glasses and . . . . either
a welcoming fire on chilly days, or doors wide open leading out to the outdoor wisteria and
grenadilla-covered dining area (airconditioned for the sultry days of mid-summer), next to the koi stream
which gently murmurs over the gentle cascades of the water feature next to it.
